beautiful cajun music in the 1981 film southern comfort.

This is a beautiful version of the song “PARLEZ NOIS A BOIRES” by Dewey Balfa.Enjoy!Warning!!!The sequence contains images of violence against animals which may offend or shock some people. Also the particular sequence is taking place in a crucial part of the film so if you havent seen it yet,i advise you to skip and enjoy all of its 106 minutes. The means of this video is to pay tribute to the Balfa brothers and the Cajun Music culture in general and last but not least to keep up the memory of some excellent movies which did nt make it to the big audience.Thank you for your posts.

  21. I can’t remember …
I can’t remember where it was filmed, lots of areas along the coast look like this, and up a ways in central Louisiana in the Atchafalaya basin. The main remote civilizations in the swamps are the Houma indians in SE Louisiana, where French is still their first language. And yes, this type of music is from the SW prairies. French is still spoken in SW La but is fading fast. But these types of get togethers still take place in many areas.

  22. Interesting. So the …
Interesting. So the music is Cajun music (Balfa bros.) but more from the SW prarie part of the state you say. So this was where? In the swamps…wasnt it probebly near Baton Rouge? I’m just asking, because the Cajun society is fascinating to me. Thanks.

  23. The pig killing, …
The pig killing, crawfish boiling, and music, as well as the swamp community are authentic, now as in 1981. But it’s mixing things, this music comes from the SW prairie, not the swamps. We are not cut off from society as much anymore, and wasn’t really in 1981. Dancing yes, but not this kind.

  24. Oh and the thing …
Oh and the thing with killing the pigs, and the boiling of crawdads and stuff, all that is also authentic, is it not?

  25. This movie didnt …
This movie didnt portray a majority Cajun. This momie portrayed a very rual Cajun communitiy in 1981. In such a community could there not be dancing like this? the dress is right and the band is right. Is the run-down building structures and homes right for such a a place?

Rural communities like this with no telephone still do exist, dont they? Just asking…
