Five Foot Two – Cinq Pieds Deux – In Cajun French!

In March, 1929 Okeh records gathered a representative group of Acadian French “Cajun” musicians from Lafayette, Louisiana in Atlanta Georgia for one of the first recording sessions featuring their music and culture. What resulted were eight sides that featured both Cajun standards and their interpretations of some popular American songs of the day. This version of “Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue” is performed by Patrick “Dak” Pellerin accompanying himself on the Banjo in both French and English. This is Okeh 45332 recorded March 20th, 1929.

Feufollet at Colorado College

Although Feufollet has often been hailed as the future of Cajun music, a more current assessment must admit that they are now the present of Cajun music. Once idolized at at early age for their precocious musicianship and sent all over the world as youthful emblems of Acadianas cultural resurgence, the members of Feufollet have, in the meantime, grown into the music as young adults. While Feufollet remains central to the neotraditionalist brush fire they helped ignite as youths, their latest album finds the band coming into its own and pushing the envelope, leading the way once again as Cajun music extends itself into a new century.

Formed in 1995 when accordionist/singer Chris Stafford was 8 and fiddler Chris Segura was 11, Feufollet quickly developed a following in Acadiana, not merely for their youthful energy but also for their surprising musical maturity and instrumental expertise in the traditional music of the Cajun culture.

Feufollet continues to be known for excellent musicianship, beautiful vocals, and innovation based on a solid grasp of the tradition, making them one of the most exciting Cajun bands in Southwest Louisiana.

Over the course of the 10 plus years that they has been performing and recording, they have built upon their regional popularity, delighting audiences of all ages at folk festivals and performance venues throughout the United States and French Canada.

Feufollet can also be booked as part of Eye for Talent’s celebration of Cajun/Zydeco music, Fête de Louisiane!, along with Grammy-nominated Creole musician, Cedric Watson and his band Bijou Creole.

TEAM BeauSoleil Takes First for Market Viability in 2009 Solar Decathlon

The BeauSoleil Louisiana Solar Home was designed and built by Louisiana students for Louisiana residents. Judges for the Market Viability contest in the 2009 U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon recognized that.

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette team placed first in the contest. Judges were looking for homes that answered the needs of their clients.

TEAM BeauSoleil designed for Louisiana residents who face harsh summers and hurricanes.

The (BeauSoleil) house hit on all cylinders, said Joyce Mason, Market Viability judge and vice president for marketing with Pardee Homes. We were so impressed with the degree to which the team listened to their market. They didnt impose their ideas or try to infer them upon their residents.

The team is one of 20 university teams from across the globe competing in the 2009 Solar Decathlon on the National Mall. TEAM BeauSoleil is the only team from Louisiana to ever participate in this contest held every two years.

We knew from the beginning that if we couldnt bring this home to the people of Louisiana, we wouldnt accomplish anything, said Gretchen Lacombe Vanicor, BeauSoleil project manager. We paid a lot of attention to our Cajun culture and produced a product that is viable.
